TD Ready Commitment Grant Helps JDRF Better Serve the Type 1 Diabetes Community

In 2020, TD Ready Commitment provided a significant grant to help JDRF further develop the #AccessForAll initiative and expand its reach into the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community.

Part of the JDRF commitment through the grant was to:

  • Create, update, and disseminate new resources on diabetes technologies, how to use diabetes technology for improved management, and tools on how to self-advocate within the home, school, and healthcare environment
  • Develop resources on the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP), including how to qualify and apply
  • Provide information to patients on what publicly funded devices are available within their respective provinces and how to navigate private insurance coverage
  • Launch surveys and host roundtables with the T1D community, requesting input on their experiences, gaps, and opportunities with virtual care. Findings will shape future community engagement activities.

To achieve these goals and to work towards our ultimate goal of being the leading resource for people affected by T1D, in June 2021, JDRF launched a new, completely redesigned website in both English and French. New sections for newly diagnosed individuals and families, information for healthcare providers and updated diabetes technology pages were created.

The sites are more user friendly, and we are constantly adding new resources to best serve the T1D community across Canada. They will also help us to better reach vulnerable populations and remote communities.

The #AccessForAll Campaign made significant progress in 2021 achieving device coverage in numerous provinces. JDRF will continue to advocate the provinces without device coverage until such time as we reach our goal of universal access and patient choice for diabetes technology and insulins.

JDRF is so grateful to TD Ready Commitment for its support, enabling us to provide expertise, advocacy, and to work every day to improve the lives of people affected by T1D in the present while continually looking ahead to improvements in the future.
