Breakthrough T1D Education Series

Breakthrough T1D Education Series: Clinical Trials

When: Tuesday, April 24, 2025, 7:00pm EST (French), 8:00pm EST (English)

Where: Microsoft Teams (a link will be sent after registration)

Who: Moderated by Breakthrough T1D Canada and featuring clinical trial researchers

As part of our ongoing Breakthrough T1D Education Series, this virtual event will provide information on the participation in clinical trials for T1D research in Canada.

Clinical trials are an essential stage of the research process and are the only way to investigate safety, tolerability, and efficacy of new potential therapies and treatments. Any treatment that is being developed for eventual use in the clinic must first be tested in a clinical trial. This can include drugs, devices, virtual care platforms, behavioural therapy, education, and more. Without them, medications or therapies that could improve quality of life may never reach the people who could benefit from them the most.

We’re excited to be joined by Dr. Farid Mahmud and Lynne McArthur to provide insight into the clinical trial process from both the researcher and parent/partner perspectives. Dr. Mahmud is an endocrinologist and associate scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and associate professor at the University of Toronto. Dr. Mahmud’s overall research focus is the early evaluation and prevention of diabetes-related complications and the impact of the social determinants of health on diabetes outcomes. He serves as lead investigator for multiple clinical trials including the Adolescent Diabetes Cardio-Renal Intervention Trial (AdDIT) and the Adolescent Type 1 diabetes treatment with SGLT2i for hyperglycemia & hyperfiltration trial (ATTEMPT) innovative clinical trial funded as part of the BreakthroughT1D-CIHR Partnership to Defeat Diabetes.

Dr. Mahmud and Lynne McArthur  will share about their experiences and answer any questions you might have.

This event is open to everyone.
