Meela

Age: 13
Lives in: Pilot Butte, SK

Meela plays many sports including hockey, softball, basketball, volleyball, football. She loves exploring the outdoors, making art, crafts, music and dance.

She has been the assistant captain/captain on many of teams, mostly recently on her U13AA Lynx Hockey Team.  She has been a member of her school’s SLC ever since she was old enough to be, including: Vice President of her school this year and President next year.

Meela is also a Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassador and was the speaker at a Regina Breakthrough T1D Walk (then known as JDRF) and Guest Speaker at a Breakthrough T1D fundraising event in Regina.

She was the first female member of Kaleb Dahlgren’s Dalgren’s Diabeauties.

Meela and her team won the Softball U13 A Regina League this season and she was chosen to be a member of District 1’s Softball team for this year’s Sask Summer Games in Lloydminster.

She was the runner-up for the Prairie Storm Adam Herold Award and she starred in a Sasktel Commercial recently with her friend, Kaleb Dahlgren. 

She ran her school’s Breakthrough T1D walk this year (and have helped run it for the past 10 years). Her goals are to continue to thrive and compete in high level sports while teaching others that T1D doesn’t hold you back in any way! 

Meela is currently working on writing a children’s book to help those diagnosed with T1D and is very excited about helping others. She does all of this while managing her T1D and loves to advocate for herself and for all those living with T1D (and Celiac Disease).
