Because it only takes 1  to spark
a breakthrough

This November, during National Diabetes Awareness Month, we’re raising awareness of type 1 diabetes (T1D) by celebrating the Power of 1 and the strength of our T1D community.

Every breakthrough starts with 1 person taking action.

Whether you’re the 1 who lives with T1D, the 1 who donates, the 1 who advocates, the 1 who volunteers, or the 1 who believes in cures, your impact matters.

At Breakthrough T1D, we know that 1 voice, 1 idea, 1 donation can lead to breakthroughs that change everything. That’s why we’re inviting you to be part of something bigger—because together, our “1s” add up to a future without T1D.

Share your “1” and see how your story helps build a future without T1D.

  I’m the 1  who lives with T1D…

I’m the 1 who lives with T1D, and I have never let this disease stop me. There are difficult times, but advances in treatments, along with the help of my family, give me the hope and strength to pursue my goals and create the life I dream of.”

Pauline André

  I’m the 1  who believes in cures…

I’m the 1 who believes that T1D treatments can be improved. Thanks to the support of Breakthrough T1D Canada, the BETTER project can work directly with members of the T1D community to identify their needs and ensure their voices are heard in essential research initiatives.”

Dr Rémi Rabasa-Lhoret, researcher

  I’m the 1  who volunteers…

I’m the 1 who volunteers because we all have a responsibility to give back to the world and trying to improve people’s quality of life. We are so close to a breakthrough in curing T1D. If we all do our part in giving back, we will succeed and that will be a win for humanity and a win for the world.”

Suzanne Reisler Litwin

  I’m the 1  who advocates…

I’m the 1 who advocates because no one should feel powerless in their own care.” Lujane Alazem, Diabetes educator and mental health advocate who lives with T1D.

Lujane Alazem

  I’m the 1  who fundraises…

I’m the 1 who fundraises because no family should have to go through the heartbreak of a type 1 diabetes diagnosis — and every dollar raised makes me feel like I’m making a real difference.”

We’re the “1s” who support the T1D community

As the leading Canadian type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization, at Breakthrough T1D Canada we focus on what the T1D community needs now and next. We break barriers to help people better manage their disease and enjoy full, healthy lives. As we drive toward curing T1D, we help make every day better for the people who live with it.

These are just some of the ways we help drive breakthroughs, work to ensure the T1D community has access to life-saving devices and treatments, as well as provide necessary supports so those living with T1D never feel alone.
