We are Breakthrough T1DTM
(Formerly JDRF)
As we kick off National Diabetes Awareness Month this November, we have some big news. We’re excited to share that JDRF Canada is now Breakthrough T1DTM.
We’re the same organization, with the same mission and determination to realize a world free from type 1 diabetes (T1D) – just with a new name and look that reflects what the T1D community needs now and next.
Watch: We are Breakthrough T1D
You may be asking why we made this change.
Since the founding of our organization more than 50 years ago, we, and the world of T1D have evolved. What was once diagnosed as “Juvenile Diabetes” is now diagnosed as type 1 diabetes (T1D) and impacts children and adults alike.
Curing T1D is and always will be our north star. We will not stop until breakthroughs get us to a world free from T1D.
Breakthroughs in T1D research, advocacy and support that will eliminate the remaining barriers to cures and help those living with T1D enjoy full, healthy lives today.
We didn’t make this change lightly. We know many people have a passionate connection to our organization. Every decision we made was guided by data and insights from the T1D community.
The evolution of our organization; along with all the global affiliates of Breakthrough T1D, will better reflect the work we do, the diverse communities we serve and best meet the needs of those impacted by this disease.
Our purpose remains steadfast as we drive toward curing T1D, we help to make every day better for the people who live with it. Our new name reflects where we already are – as an organization, as a T1D community, and in our overarching goal of finding cures for this chronic disease.
Our goal remains the same, funding the most promising research into cures for T1D, while improving lives today and getting us to a world free from type 1 diabetes.
