When your child receives a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes (T1D), it can be an overwhelming time. As you navigate this challenging period of adjustment to life with T1D, you can find helpful information and support through the free Breakthrough T1D® Bag of Hope.
Enclosed in the Bag of Hope® you’ll find:
Rufus the Bear with Diabetes – A cuddly friend to show your child they are not alone while learning to take insulin and check their blood glucose levels. Rufus has special patches to interact with a free mobile companion app as a complement that adds fun to learning for your child.
Breakthrough T1D Guide for Newly Diagnosed Children and their Caregivers – An introductory guide to living with T1D created with care and reviewed by healthcare professionals and people with lived experience. Learn T1D basics, what you should know about blood glucose measurements and insulin, how to educate others about T1D, and where to find more information, resources and support.
An age-appropriate book for children about living with diabetes – for younger children (ages 0-7), Rufus Comes Home, a storybook about your child’s new cuddly friend. Older kids (8-12) will receive The Game Plan, a comic about adapting to life with T1D.
