Why Breakthrough T1D

We are now Breakthrough T1D

As the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization, we focus on what the T1D community needs now and next. We break barriers to help people better manage the disease and enjoy full, healthy lives. We makeevery daybetter for those living with T1D, as we drive toward curing this disease. 

This means helping to support the research to that will one day prevent, treat and eventually cure T1D and its complications—and ensuring that the entire T1D community has access to the devices and treatments they need today while we work on cures for tomorrow.  

In 2024 our mission takes centre stage with our new brand.  

After two years of research and feedback from the T1D community we are excited to introduce you to Breakthrough T1D. We discovered we needed a name that reflected who we are – and where we’re going. And we are bringing our 50+ year history with us, 

During this data-gathering process where we consulted those living with T1D, their caregivers and our research community we learned a few things 

That our brand should represent the life-changing work we do every day. We champion breakthroughs for every age and stage of T1D, and our donors, supporters and volunteers make it possible.  

So our new brand now aligns with our mission to accelerate life changing breakthroughs so that Canadians living with T1D can enjoy fuller, healthier lives.And our new look reflects the limitless breakthroughs that our organization works to achieve. All our visual elements tie back to this core idea, born from our new name, Breakthrough T1D.   

Our logo was inspired by the T1D community and represents its diversity, optimism, and passion for curing T1D. The word literally breaks through a burst, symbolizing inspiration, and innovation. Our logo connotes breakthroughs, both big and small for the T1D community. The wordmark physically breaks through our visionary, precise and powerful burst creating the impact of what we do for the community. This outward expression is inclusive, energetic, and embodies optimism for the cures we will discover as a community.  

Blue is not only our signature color, but the color that represents diabetes. Our “Breakthrough Blue” is accompanied by a vibrant, clean, and inherent warmth of humanity.   

We have seen amazing breakthroughs—and our new name reflects the reality that we are on the cusp of breakthroughs that could get us to cures and to a world free from T1D. 

It was time to carry the momentum created by more than 50 years of research, advocacy, and community into a brand that reflected who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we’re going.
